How We Began Watch the video to learn more about AmeriNam's roots

AmeriNam healing is a nonporfit, charitable organization that was formed through the efforts of Chippewa Valley area physicians, a Vietnam-born American, and a retired soldier.

During their first visit to Vietnam in January of 2009, this group spoke with Vietnamese government officials with the intent to provide medical care to the underserved people of Vietnam. These talks resulted in an invitation to provide ophthalmic and orthopedic care to the people of Hue and Danang, Vietnam, beginning in January 2010.

Ophthalmology

Led by Dr. Thomas Harvey

Dr. Thomas Harvey is a fellowship-trained anterior segment eye surgeon and one of the most accomplished ophthalmologists in the Chippewa Valley — and it is that same passion for expanding access to quality eye care that brings him to AmeriNam Healing’s mission in Vietnam.

Dr. Harvey earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2000 and completed an elite fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas — one of the country’s most respected ophthalmology training programs. Specializing in cornea surgery, cataract surgery, and vision correction, he founded Independent Vision Group and the Independent Surgery Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and today performs approximately one out of every three cataract surgeries in the Chippewa Valley. A multi-year Castle Connolly Top Doctors award recipient, he also serves as an officer on the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society National Board and is a founding member of the Vanguard Ophthalmology Society.

Beyond his thriving practice, Dr. Harvey has long believed that exceptional eye care should not be a privilege limited by geography or circumstance. He has organized numerous surgical mission trips around the globe, and through his partnership with AmeriNam Healing, he continues that work in Vietnam — where conditions like cataracts, left untreated, can mean a lifetime of preventable blindness.

Orthopedics

Led by Dr. Troy Berg

Dr. Berg has been a cornerstone of orthopedic care in Western Wisconsin since 1998, and brings that same dedication to underserved communities through his work with AmeriNam Healing.

He completed his medical degree, residency, and a fellowship in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at top institutions across the Midwest, and is board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. With a special focus on knee and shoulder surgery, Dr. Berg now extends his expertise to patients in Vietnam who would otherwise have little access to specialized orthopedic care.
