AmeriNam Healing in Vietnam
Vietnam is where AmeriNam Healing’s story began. In January 2009, a small group of Chippewa Valley physicians, a Vietnam-born American, and a retired soldier traveled to Vietnam and met with government officials to explore how they could bring meaningful medical care to underserved communities. That conversation led to a formal invitation, and in January 2010, AmeriNam Healing performed its first surgical missions in Hue and Da Nang, providing ophthalmic and orthopedic care free of charge to patients who had little to no access to specialized treatment.
Since those first missions, AmeriNam Healing has continued to deepen its presence in Vietnam, not just through surgery, but through education. Our teams work directly alongside Vietnamese medical students, residents, and faculty, sharing techniques and building local expertise that endures long after each mission concludes. Every dollar donated goes directly toward the cost of surgeries and aftercare, ensuring that no patient is turned away due to inability to pay.
Through partnerships with Buon Ma Thuot Medical University and leading medical centers in Da Nang, AmeriNam Healing is committed to a model of care that goes beyond treating individual patients, one that strengthens the entire healthcare system and creates a lasting legacy of healing for generations to come.

AmeriNam Healing in Nicaragua
Our work extends beyond Vietnam to the rural communities of Nicaragua, where access to basic medical care remains a significant challenge. Through meaningful partnerships with local healthcare workers, AmeriNam Healing supports those who are already serving their communities, helping them do more with greater resources, training, and support.
One such partner is Melvin Antonio López Umaña, a Nicaraguan registered nurse and homeopathic medicine student serving the rural Tola community outside of Rancho Santana. With the support of AmeriNam Healing donors, Melvin built the Amanecer Clinic — a dedicated space where he now sees over 300 patients per year, treating conditions ranging from diabetes and hypertension to arthritis, herniated discs, and facial paralysis. What began as a makeshift patient room inside his own home has grown into a vital community health resource that continues to expand.
AmeriNam Healing is proud to support Melvin’s ongoing education and the continued growth of the Amanecer Clinic — because lasting change in healthcare doesn’t just come from surgical missions, it comes from empowering the dedicated local providers who show up every single day.
AmeriNam Healing in Honduras
AmeriNam Healing’s commitment to expanding access to eye care extends to the underserved communities of Honduras, where Dr. Thomas Harvey has joined a dedicated team of U.S.-trained ophthalmologists on mission trips to Hospital San Felipe in Tegucigalpa. Hospital San Felipe holds a unique distinction as the first and only facility in Honduras to house an ophthalmology residency and anterior segment fellowship program, making it a vital hub for advancing eye care across the country.
In July 2023, Dr. Harvey traveled to Hospital San Felipe alongside fellow surgeons Dr. Patricia Sierra and Dr. Julia Agapov as part of a “brigada de ojos” — a visiting surgical team that dedicates an entire week to performing surgeries and providing hands-on training for local residents. The mission’s focus goes beyond individual procedures, emphasizing education, skills transfer, and the building of lasting professional relationships with Honduran ophthalmologists. By sharing advanced techniques and contributing to the hospital’s residency and fellowship programs, Dr. Harvey and his colleagues are helping to shape a new generation of eye care professionals in Honduras — ensuring that the impact of each mission reaches far beyond the operating room.
